In typical Antoinette fashion, this post was created from real life events. I have spent hours upon hours of going through piles of clothes only to find more piles of clothes (that I don’t actually like) Resulting in me being late to almost any place I go.
Learn from my mistakes and figure out why we have closets that could clothe a small army, yet putting one outfit together for work is enough to send you completely bonkers..
YOUR CLOTHES ARE OUTDATED
You have kept a number of the same pieces for years, but unfortunately your clothes just aren’t fitting the same as they used too. Ill fitting tops, faded black ink…. ugh these clothes don’t belong in this decade, they don’t belong in a vintage shop, and they sure as hell don’t belong in your wardrobe
It’s time to weed out your closet! You can follow this guide here to make the process easier
REASON NO. 2
YOUR CLOTHES DON’T SUIT YOUR LIFESTYLE
Maybe you’ve scrolled through your Instagram feed one too many times and made a few purchases that you wouldn’t normally make. Those beautiful items may look great in a picture- but do you actually wear them? If you don’t have anywhere to wear these beautiful clothes, your lifestyle and wardrobe are speaking different languages.
Gather up those beautiful pieces (just the one’s you don’t wear- everyone needs some luxury) and head down to a consignment shop to make a little cash. Once you have made your money back, make a list (of things you actually need) and pick yourself up items that you can actually wear on a daily basis.
YOUR BUYING THE WRONG COLORS
We often find trendy pieces and just love them in store. Only to then buy them and realize that the color it comes in completely washes you out (and yes the lighting in changing rooms is always more flattering) Our skin tones tend to look great with certain colors and then terrible with others… So getting to know what suits you is always a bonus.
FIND YOUR COLORS
I recently found this post on finding the right colors for your skin tone, so if you are in doubt with what suits you and what makes you look like the walking dead, check out the post for some guidance.
YOU NEED TO DO YOUR LAUNDRY….
It’s a fact that woman only wear 20% of their wardrobe… meaning that 80% is left being unused! Since we are keeping that same 20% in the cycle, they are ending up in the laundry bin before you can even finish up the week.
GUUURRLLL DO YOUR DAM LAUNDRY:
….And try following my capsule wardrobe plan, mornings would be so much simpler with a wardrobe that you can wear at least 80% of on a regular basis.
YOUR CLOSET IS A MESS
You have clothes you love, you can just never find them… In short- your wardrobe is a hot mess.
EMPTY OUT, CLEAN UP:
Time to clean out your wardrobe and start organizing your items in a way that makes most sense to you. Their are no wrong or right ways, you can organize in colors, seasonal trends or based on the piece itself. Whichever way will help you cut down time in the morning.
YOUR CLOTHES ARE DISJOINTED
You have a closet full of adorable pieces buuuuut none of them actually match well together. It’s easy to go shopping and splurge on loads of cute new clothes, but having an intentional wardrobe works so much better for when you need to, you know actually wear your clothes! This of course, requires a strategy. One that will lead to great buying decisions.
MAKE A LIST OF WHAT YOU NEED (AND STICK TO IT)
When you figure out what you need to help you wear the rest of your cute pieces, write them down in a list and figure out where you can buy them from and what pieces are your top priorities. Ask yourself basic questions when you find something you love;
“Do I have shoes to wear with this?”
“Can I wear this with —-?”
The best place to start with organizing your wardrobe is to follow this simple wardrobe planner, it’s a simple downloadable planner that I have been using and is really simple to work too!
