Boohoo recently got in touch with me to put together a not-so-typical guide for an Auckland adventure. Here are a few local secrets you need to check out, plus a few underrated nature spots too, because let’s face it, the touristy spots can be such a bummer.
How would you describe style in your city?
Auckland is more known for it’s laid back style. Simple basics with interesting shapes and textures are very prominent in the inner city as well as a lot of neutral tones. Aucklanders aren’t normally known for their wide variety of colour, we tend to stick to neutrals but we do it well 🙂
The best spots to Instagram?
I would say Ponsonby, due to the unlimited foodie spots and interesting bars. There are always new bars and restaurants popping up so there’s always somewhere new to check out and get a few shots for Instagram.
What neighbourhood visitors should visit and why?
There are loads of cool neighbourhoods around Auckland. Taking a trip over to Waiheke for a winery tour is always great in summer, visiting Kingsland for a rugby game and a good pub meal is a must if you’re visiting during winter and Ponsonby Central for a great range of lunch options on your lazy Sunday off.
Favourite park or nature spot?
Hunua Falls is always a fun walk with beautiful scenic views. Tāwharanui regional park is also a cool spot for a beach day with friends and family, the beautiful thing about Auckland is we are surrounded by so much nature so you can basically find a cool spot at every corner.
Best spots for Foodies:
Breakfast, Please! I love Kiss Kiss. The menu is quite unique and the flavours are heavenly. The decor is even better. Bright pink walls and green umbrellas make for one the quirkiest places to check out in Auckland.
Do you even Lunch? The Food Truck Garage is one of my faves. The healthy yet delicious food is perfect for a lunch stop. They are very proud of their unique flavours and nutrient dense food.
Dinner? Check out Moo Chow Chow for fusion Thai and some of the best cocktails in town. And if cocktails are your thing- head to Bedford & Soda after for some REALLY pretty cocktails.
Why you love living there
Auckland is a mixture of city and nature. You don’t have to drive far to get away from the hustle and bustle. That is something quite unique to Auckland and something I will always love. We also have a substantial amount of good foodie spots!
What 3 words sum up the vibe of your city?
Busy, energetic, stylish.
