I’m sure we have all had that moment in a store when we choose an item because it looks like it should cost a lot more than it actually does. With my budget, that’s basically my whole shopping life. I will admit that I like to look expensive- even if I don’t have the bank balance to match 😛

Choosing the right pieces that will last, not cost a fortune and that will work well in your wardrobe is something that can tend to be a struggle, which is what inspired this post, because when it comes down to it, it doesn’t actually take much to make your outfit look a lot more expensive than it actually is.

I’ve teamed up with Farmers to bring you some of my favourite tips to achieving a luxury look for less, something that Farmers has been doing really well with lately. Their new collection has some incredible new brands and designers on board, and all with a really affordable price tag.

If you wanted to check out the new collection you can view it online or in store. If you happen to find something you like, make sure you share your look on Instagram and tag #founditatfarmers you could win for yourself a $200 gift voucher! (Make sure you tag me also, so I can check out your look and vote for you as one of my faves!)

  1. Look at the Little details

Fabrics are probably the most important thing to look at when making your purchases. Choose fabrics that will wear well and retain its shape (this generally means keeping away from polyester!) You want your clothes to last a long time and not bobble after only just a few wears. Keep your clothes freshly ironed and clean for a really polished look. Keeping an eye on these small details can make your outfit look that much more expensive and well kept.

  2. Invest in luxuries

A good quality handbag, delicate jewellery and some killer shoes are all purchases that should be your “investment purchases”. You want to keep these items for a longer time than your general clothes so choose wisely and invest in these items. Choose colours that will pair well with your entire wardrobe – ask yourself, how many outfits will it go with? How often could I wear it? How easy will it be to keep clean? Is it going to age well?!

  3. Never underestimate the power of great shoes

Choosing a good shoe can be the make or break to your look. You could be wearing a plain tee and some denim cut-off’s but if you’ve paired with them with some cool ankle boots, it makes your look immediately “cool-girl chic” Shoes are actually the very first thing most people will notice about you, so keep them clean, polished and opt for statement colours and styles to turn heads.

  4. Layering completes a look and makes it more polished

Layering immediately changes your look from casual to effortlessly chic. Layering creates cool textures and adds diversity to your look and is one look that I’m rather fond of!

Keep in mind that one key piece in your wardrobe can really enhance your outfit. Choose your shoes, jackets and handbags wisely to enhance your look and let those items be the things that pulls your look together.

I’d love to know how you like to keep your outfits looking super slick, on a slightly smaller budget?
