It doesn’t matter if you like them arched or straight, bold or feathered, eyebrows are arguably your most important facial feature.

If the ones you were born with aren’t satisfying your aesthetic needs, there are so many ways to update them, brow gels, pencils, tattooing and now there’s a very natural option that delivers a seamless semi-permanent result.

Ladies, welcome to the wonderful world of microblading. Unlike harsh “Sharpie-like” permanent makeup, microblading is tiny strokes that look just like real hairs. Microblading is perfect for those who want to fully reconstruct, define, cover gaps, or fill-in over plucked brows.

I decided to check out what all the fuss was about and booked an appointment in with Katt from Off & On Brow House so I’m going to tell you guys everything you need to know about microblading your brows.

I was asked to come in for a consultation before making the booking to ensure that myself and Katt were on the same page with what we wanted to achieve with the results and that both of our expectations would be met. It was at the consult that we drew on some test brows for color matching and shape. I let Katt reign free on my brows because I wanted her to advise me on what shape would best suit. We kept it very minimal and focused mainly on my brows looking more even without any makeup on.

No alcohol the night before your session and no coffee the morning of. Alcohol thins your blood and the caffeine increases your chances of bleeding, so this is a major one!

You can’t wet your brows for ten days after your session. I used makeup wipes morning and night (avoiding the brow area) and that worked well for me. In the shower I applied a thick layer of vaseline and when I shampooed my hair I made sure not to get my face wet by leaning my head right back and keeping a towel handy to wipe around my hairline if I thought the water was going to dribble down.

No exercise for ten days after the treatment! You don’t want to increase your heart rate and blood pressure, and you also really don’t want to be sweating with freshly feathered brows… for ten days, no exercise!

You’ll have to carry some after care cream on you at all times. Keeping the cream touched up throughout the day, if you feel your brows drying out you have left it too long and you need to touch up with your cream!

Before the process begins, a topical numbing cream is applied. If you’re worried about the pain factor- it is relatively painless.

During the microblading process, Katt used a special microblading pen to draw on the individual strokes one by one. It’s a meticulous process that takes around two hours to complete. Since the results will generally last 1-3 years before beginning to fade it’s good to know that the technicians pay so much attention to detail. It’s not a rushed procedure, it cannot be done in an hour. If you find someone that claims they can do your feathered brows, run the other way!

The cool thing about microblading is that after your session is finished, your new set of brows are all ready for a selfie! No major redness was present and they looked good straight away.  A follow-up appointment one month after will be made and then your on your way to heal 🙂  After healing, you can rub them and enjoy swimming. No special care is required, except for a brief touch-up once a year

The two sessions at Off & On are priced at $895. But waking up every morning with perfect believable brows is totally worth it.
