As someone who has struggled with acne since I was 12, I have learned to take my skincare routine very seriously! I needed to develop my routine earlier on, in order to keep on top of keeping my skin as clean and clear as much as I could.
My routine at night is a little extreme, however, it pays off in the long run to take those extra steps. Skin-cell renewal is much faster at night and research shows that between 11 pm to 4 am is when collagen is boosted and harmful free radicals are destroyed, and that is why it’s crucial to get a good night’s rest during these hours. Naturally, I’m a night owl, so it takes a lot of effort for me to hit the sheets by 11 pm. It’s important to keep a detailed nighttime routine to maximise your products and reap the benefits while you sleep.
Step 1: Oil
I always start my nighttime beauty regime with coconut oil. I use the oil before I cleanse because it instantly melts away all my makeup from that day, including stubborn mascaras and eyeliner that are a little harder to remove with a gentle cleanser. After I have massaged the oil into my face and neck I then I soak a face cloth in hot water and have the hot steam seep into my skin as I gently remove my makeup.
Step 2: Cleanse
Next, is my cleanser. Washing your face with a cleanser after using an oil will ensure you’ve gotten rid of all the buildup from the day. This is what I call double cleansing (and I do it every night) you’d be surprised at how much product is left on your skin if you’re only cleansing once- so it’s well worth adding in a second cleanse to ensure you’re removing all the products and any built-up bacteria. I’ve recently been using the Arbonne RE9 Facial Cleanser which is certified Vegan and very gentle on your skin.
Step 3: Mask
When I’m feeling in need of a little pampering session I’ll make sure to use a mask.. If my skin is feeling a bit congested, I will give myself a detoxifying charcoal mask. If my skin is looking a bit dull, I will use a brightening and hydrating mask, I also love to use sheet masks for instant skin hydration. I don’t do this every night but I do try to get 1-2 in per week.
Step 4: Toner
Most toners are full of active ingredients that are great for the skin to absorb in the evening. Toners add an extra barrier of moisture to your skin so they’re incredibly hydrating. I’ve been using the Arbonne Re9 Regenerating Toner.
Step 5: Serum
Serum is one of my favorite steps. I have oily skin with a history of acne and I’m also on the later end of my 20’s so I am always wanting to use products that can reduce fine lines and keep wrinkles at bay. I’m currently using the Intensive Renewal serum from Arbonne and so far I’ve been loving the results.
Step 6: Night Cream
At night, I ditch my daily moisturizer and like to use something a little more heavy duty. An intensive night cream is perfect for giving my skin the hydration it needs to help it looking fresh and glowy in the morning. Remember, the more you keep your skin hydrated and moisturized, the younger and clearer you look.
Step 7: Eye Cream
To finish, I gently apply a night cream around my eyes to ensure that when I’m sleeping my eyes have lots of nourishment to keep them hydrated and youthful looking.
That’s it for my daily bedtime beauty routine! Although you may think some of these steps may be excessive, after repeating it for a few weeks and drilling it into your daily routine- you’re bound to see a massive difference in your skin’s overall texture and look.
