Since I left my job just over a month ago, I have been getting A LOT of questions about what I am doing with my life or why I decided to leave my job when I seemed to be doing so well. So this post is to basically fill everyone in on what my plans are, what I have been doing for the last month and why I ACTUALLY decided to leave.
I’ll start with why I decided to take the plunge and leave my job without having anything else lined up.
I had been working in the same salon for a good five years. I had a great boss and I was exposed to many, cool opportunities. I was competing in competitions and working on some cool shows. But, I was burnt out. Travelling for at least 2 hours each day, fitting in shoots every weekend and feeling a little bored with the same routine everyday finally got to me. My passion was gone and I was feeling a little lost. I decided I wanted to move to Australia, so I handed in my notice.
Then, Richard was offered a really cool opportunity with his job and we knew we had to stay. When I found out we couldn’t make the move yet, I have to admit I struggled from anxiety. I HAD JUST LEFT MY JOB WITH NOTHING LINED UP!!!!! I couldn’t sleep most nights and my brain was moving 1000 times faster than normal. Despite all that, I knew I had to leave. I had reached the end of my time there, and deep down there was so much more I wanted to do, this was the perfect opportunity to just go for it. I decided not to look for another job, because I knew I needed to break away from the salon life to really know what I wanted to do. This little life change has been a huge step for me, and I’m really glad I took it. Life is feeling a little brighter and the anxiety is a distant memory. Turns out I just really needed to take a few steps back to just enjoy life and not be so absorbed in my work. So here is what I have been up to for the last month….
-I have finally been making time for myself
Since the tender age of 16 I have worked full time, and before that I worked part time after school and on the weekends. I decided school wasn’t for me at a young age, so this is usually the price you pay…..I have been a checkout girl, a retail assistant, a barrista, a hairdresser… you get it. I have done a lot with my working career. So, in this last month I have been making the most of my break. I have been going away for long weekends, reading books I never got around to reading, going out on a lot of coffee dates and dinners and most importantly having days where I blob in bed all day with my pyjamas on.
-I have been getting creative
One of my favourite past times is directing and styling photo-shoots. There is nothing I love more than creating a beautiful photo and seeing my visions become true works of art. This is how I express myself creatively and it gives me a sense of accomplishment.
-I am chasing my dreams
One of my goals for this year was to start up my very own online boutique. It’s something I have wanted to do for a while and after reading countless blog posts by the incredible Gala Darling I knew that this was the year to do so. I planned to do this in Melbourne and I shall do this here in Auckland. I am currently working on a new site and can’t wait to share it with you all.
Future plans.
So, this is where I tell you about my plans for the store. Well, it will be launching in a months time. Currently, I’m making sure everything will be perfect and ready for the launch. Everything in the store will be handpicked by yours truly. There is nothing in that store I wouldn’t personally wear and their is a good mixture of new pieces, one-offs and pre-loved vintage pieces too. There will be more information coming very soon but for now, check out my page. I have started to search for some fun loving, dedicated and baben promoters to help me kick start this baby, and I’m thinking that could be you?!
I’ll see you over there xxxx
